Born in Tulum in 1939, Pascuala Catzim Chan comes from a family whose origins trace back to Chuntamay, a small village in the jungle that has since disappeared from the map. She grew up when Tulum was little more than a few houses connected by paths through the forest. Now 86, she is the last surviving of ten siblings and the matriarch of a large family that continues to live in Tulum.
