Josefina Alberto is originally from Tabasco and came to Quintana Roo in 1974 as part of a wave of families granted land by the Mexican government to help populate the region. Raised in a family of fishermen, she began fishing at the age of five and later accompanied her husband on fishing trips out of Punta Allen, where she became an experienced freediver. Today she is the proud mother of five and grandmother of eleven.
